All you need to do is look at advertising today to know that everyone is getting onto Facebook. My Grandmother who is 82 is on Facebook and has 44 friends (including me of course) so it reasons to believe that its justified that businesses need to understand this new model for reaching out to the world and their customers (new ones and potential customers too). One of the ways that businesses are doing this is using a Facebook page.
I’ve written a few articles about Facebook pages and FBML (Facebook’s Mark-up Language) in the past but what I wanted to talk about is that if you have a business and you have a website then why not have a Facebook page for your business.
If you are a larger business then you can probably figure out how to create your own Facebook page and market it but for smaller businesses you may be saying “I don’t have the time or resources to set this up for my business”. Here are 3 ways that you can make a Facebook page successful for your small to mid-sized company.
Including your Facebook page URL on your marketing and promotional material - There are already a lot of companies using this in their marketing with “Like us on Facebook”. Do they know something? Probably. This is where your next customers are on and what they are using every day, making buying decisions and looking at what their friends are interested in which some people may argue makes your stronger or weaker depending on the experience that people had with it.
25 Likes on your Facebook page gets you a custom URL - In order to get http://www.facebook.com/mypage you need to get 25 likes on your Facebook page to unlock this functionality. By the way, shameless plug here, stop by and like the Website Experts Facebook page today and like us. So getting back to this point if you don’t have at least 25 likes you won’t be able to get your custom Facebook page URL.
Customizing the look and feel of your Facebook page - Facebook still has a way to go in terms of opening up the customizability of its Facebook pages but if you can learn FBML and know how to install the app that can open up the FBML for your Facebook page there is a lot you can do to customize your Facebook page.
With an average of 1 in 6 clicks happening on Facebook these days it’s hard not to seriously consider marketing your business using Facebook and more importantly Facebook pages.
